Obtaining a health certificate is a mandatory requirement for food delivery riders in many countries to ensure public safety and uphold hygiene standards in the food supply chain. This certification confirms that the rider does not have any communicable diseases that could be transmitted through food handling or close contact with customers. While specific requirements may vary by region, several common medical tests are typically required to issue a food delivery rider’s health certificate.

Standard medical tests usually include a general physical examination, stool analysis to detect intestinal parasites or infections such as Salmonella or Shigella, and blood tests to screen for hepatitis A, B, and C. Some jurisdictions may also require a chest X-ray or tuberculosis (TB) screening, particularly if the rider has had symptoms or exposure to TB. Additionally, a urinalysis might be conducted to check for signs of systemic infection or other underlying health issues.

Certain medical conditions can lead to the denial or temporary suspension of a health certificate. Active infections like typhoid fever, tuberculosis, or hepatitis A—especially in its contagious phase—are primary reasons for disqualification. Chronic carriers of pathogens such as Hepatitis B or Salmonella may also be deemed unfit for food delivery roles due to the risk of transmission. Skin infections, especially those affecting the hands or face, and untreated gastrointestinal illnesses involving diarrhea or vomiting can similarly result in failure until the condition is resolved and cleared by a physician.

It’s important to note that most health authorities allow reapplication after successful treatment and follow-up testing. Riders who receive a negative result on their initial assessment are typically advised to maintain good personal hygiene, undergo periodic re-evaluation, and report any new symptoms promptly. By adhering to these medical standards, food delivery platforms help protect both consumers and workers, ensuring a safer and more trustworthy food delivery ecosystem.
