Human Organ Location Guide

This guide provides a general overview of the location of major human organs within the body. Please note that this is a simplified explanation and variations can occur. This guide is for informational purposes only and should not be considered a substitute for professional medical advice.

Brain

The brain resides within the skull, specifically the cranial cavity.

  • Location: Inside the skull.
  • Function: Controls thoughts, memory, emotion, and bodily functions.

The heart is located in the thoracic cavity, in the mediastinum, between the lungs.

  • Location: Within the chest, slightly to the left of the midline, between the lungs.
  • Function: Pumps blood throughout the body.

The lungs are located on either side of the heart, within the thoracic cavity.

  • Location: Within the chest cavity, one on each side ofthe heart, protected by the rib cage.
  • Function: Responsible for gas exchange (oxygen and carbon dioxide).

The stomach is located in the abdominal cavity, on the left side, superior to the intestines.

  • Location: In the upper left quadrant of the abdomen, beneath the diaphragm.
  • Function: Digests food.

The liver is located in the upper right quadrant of the abdominal cavity, just below the diaphragm.

  • Location: In the upper right quadrant of the abdomen, just below the diaphragm.
  • Function: Filters blood, produces bile, and stores glycogen.

Kidneys

The kidneys are located in the retroperitoneal space, on either sideof the spine, behind the abdominal organs.

  • Location: On either side of the spine, in the back of the abdomen.
  • Function: Filter blood and produce urine.

The intestines are located within the abdominal cavity.

  • Location: Within the abdominal cavity. The small intestine is centrally located and the large intestine surrounds the small intestine.
